Thanks for continuing to think about this.

When we spoke, I didn't realize that your design was already implemented.
Given that fact, enhancing the representation (or even hashing out the
design alternatives to better understand them) falls in priority.  I think
the current design is fine for now, and we can revisit it later, when there
are fewer items on our to-do lists (or when someone else brings up this
issue!).
